Description
Crush a pinch of leaf into teas while steeping or use the leaves to make a sweetening syrup. Add one cup of warm water to 1/4 C finely crushed dried leaves. Put in an airtight jar and allow to steep for 24 hours. Strain and use, or cook on low heat, reducing to a concentrated syrup. The syrup should last for several years, if kept in an airtight container in your refrigerator.
Total energy of the plant material was in the range 362.3 – 384.2 kcal/100 g while tannin content was in the range 5.43 – 5.91 %. Moreover, reducing sugar was 4.5, 4.8 and 5.3 %, respectively, for sun, oven and microwave drying.
